Seeing snow monkeys bathing in an Onsen is one of the best experiences in Japan which shouldn’t be missed!
With “showing symbiosis between human and monkeys” as a theme, the Jigokudani Monkey Park in Nagano prefecture attracts a number of foreign tourists every year.
In 1964, a baby monkey took an open-air bath alone near the Jigokudani Monkey Park.
After seeing the baby monkey, adult monkeys started imitate taking a bath.
Although the reason why they take a bath remains unclear, it can be assumed that they enjoy immersing themselves in warm water like a human.
Since snow monkeys have become used to humans and lack a fear of humans, you can see them taking a relaxing bath.
If you’re lucky, you can even take a bath together with snow monkeys.
The best time to visit Jigokudani Monkey Park is from December to March.
Let’s visit Jigokudani Monkey Park and enjoy Japan’s iconic symbol!
